Christiane RANCELOT has always had a peculiar interest in man and movement. Her work reflects what resonate with her and her emotions. She now lives between Bordeaux and Florida.
Born in the north of France, she practiced drawing since her childhood with her grandfather.
Then, she enlarged her knowledge in art at the Beaux-Arts and in the associative environment. After many years practicing drawing in life class and testing abstraction for a bit in the 80s, she’s now back to figurative works. She reflects on the human nature, the passing of time and the place of man through centuries and technical progress.
Nowadays, the instantaneity of photography which allows to illustrate the ephemeral is her new stimulant, her beginning point for creation. Christiane RANCELOT works after the photographs she takes under the influence of emotion: a beautiful marble sculpture, a playful child, a passer-by on the phone; one of the important thing is the subject ignoring that a picture of themselves is taken. The characters are here, but just passing by.
Her interpretations of water are compositions seen through the filter of crazy and changing reflections, transparencies that destroy the picture and make it more abstract. Those fugitive interactions between water and light force the eye and the spirit to always question abstraction and figuration. The subject is a mere excuse for Christiane Rancelot to paint variations of light. Her works awaken in us memories of childhood, of well-being and of pleasure.
Christiane RANCELOT showcases her work at Sylvie PLATINI in Annecy and Lyon as well as in the United States.
